Back to wall art

I stumbled across this nest one day during a site visit.  It was woven among the cattails like a basket, and so well hidden that it took me about 20 minutes to find it again when I cam back with my camera.  This belongs to a red winged blackbird, and the ferocious little things were pretty upset when I got to close to their babies.  I used brown slip for the sgraffito nest, and layered on glaze and post firing ceramic paint to give the composition some depth. This particular version is hanging in my living room right now, in a window that gets lots of light.  I'm quite enamored!
